To provide a composite member which is light in weight and excellent in strength and wear resistance by forming a metallic carrier of a casting body to be integratedly cast so that a plating film formed on a surface of the specified metallic carrier is exposed outside.
A composite member 1 comprises an aluminum alloy casting body 3 to constitute a cylinder block to be used for, for example, an internal combustion engine, and a cylindrical metallic carrier 5 which is integratedly cast in the casting body 3. A specified area of the metallic carrier 5 is covered by a plating film 7. The metallic carrier 5 is formed cylindrical, and the plating film 7 is formed on an inner surface of the metallic carrier 5, and then, the metallic carrier 5 is cast at the position corresponding to a bore inner surface 9 of the cylinder block of the internal combustion engine. The metallic carrier 5 with the plating film 7 formed thereon is cast in the casting body 3. The plating film 7 is exposed outside when the composite member is completed.
