Abstract:
PURPOSE:To lower the side lobe level so as to improve the resolution of ultrasonic image by coupling piezo-electric elements of two or more kinds having different frequency constants one another with an organic polymeric material after arranging the elements in lines. CONSTITUTION:Piezo-electric elements 12a and 12b having different frequency constants are one-dimensionally coupled one another by alternately arranging the elements 12a and 12b in a two-dimensional plane and providing electrodes 14 and 15 to both end faces of the coupled elements and three-dimensionally coupled one another by filling the gap between each element 12 with an organic polymeric material 13. When the elements 12a and 12b vibrate in one body as a composite piezo-electric body 11, the body vibrates at frequencies containing both frequencies and weighting can be performed with the one composite piezo-electric body 11 by adjusting the intensity of the amplitude of an ultrasonic beam. Therefore, an ultrasonic beam pattern which is lowered in side lobe level can be formed.
