To obtain a low-toxic composition for coating, excellent in drying properties without damaging a substrate and capable of forming a coating film without sticking an oil-based ink thereto by including a specific graft copolymer and a specified cross-linking agent therein.
This composition for coating comprises a graft copolymer, prepared by copolymerizing (i) a macromonomer having ≥50 wt.% content of an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer unit having a 4-12C aliphatic or a 4-12C alicyclic group and further a radically polymerizable group at one terminal of a vinyl polymer having 40-160°C Tg with (ii) a silicone-based macromonomer having a radically polymerizable group at one terminal and (iii) other radically polymerizable monomers and having hydroxyl groups and a cross-linking agent reactive with the hydtoxyl groups. The graft copolymer further contains (iv) a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate monomer unit derived from other radically polymerizable monomers and (v) a monomer unit represented by formula I or II as essential constituent units at (0.5-10)/1 ratio of the components (iv):(v) expressed in terms of molar ratio. The hydroxyl value of the composition is 80-150 KOHmg/g.
