To obtain a composition containing poly(phenylene ether) resin and a naphthalate polyester resin having increased modulus by mixing a poly(phenylene ether) resin with a polyester resin containing a structure represented by a specified formula.
About 8wt.% functionalizing agent (e.g. orthoester compound) is added to a poly(phenylene ether) resin (hereinbelow abbreviated as PPE), and the resulting mixture is melt-kneaded to prepare a compatibilized PPE. A mixture comprising about 1-99wt.% compatibilized PPE and about 99-1wt.% polyester resin containing a structure (e.g. poly(1,2-ethylene-2,6-naphthalate) represented by the formula (wherein R1 is a bivalent aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon group, a polyoxyalkylene or the like; A1 is a bivalent aliphatic, alicyclic or an aromatic hydrocarbon group or the like or a naphthalate group) is mixed with about 1-20wt.%, based on the composition, impact modifier (e.g. polystyrene/polybutadiene block copolymer). The obtained mixture is melt-kneaded and extruded at about 290-340°C with e.g. a twin-screw extruder to obtain the objective composition.
