Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a composition for oral cavities, containing a dimethyldiallylammonium chloride (colpolymer, and useful for inhibiting the formation of dental plaques to prevent oral cavity diseases.
CONSTITUTION: This composition for oral cavities contains a homopolymer of dimethyldiallylammonium chloride of formula I or a copolymer of the dimethyldiallylammonium chloride with a copolymerizable ethylenic unsaturated hydrocarbon group-having monomer of formula II (R is COOH, CONH2; R' is H, methyl, etc.,) in an amount of 0.0001-5wt.% as an active ingredient. The composition is further compounded with an organic acid (e.g., gallic acid) in an amount of 0.0001-5wt.%, and further, with arbitrary components such as an abrasive agent, a caking agent, a thickening agent, a surfactant, a sweetener and a perfume, and subsequently prepared into a dentifrice, a mouth wash, a chewing gum, etc. The composition is excellent in a preventing effect on the adhesion of microorganisms to the surfaces of teeth, efficiently inhibits the formation of dental plaques, and is effective for preventing dental caries and periodontitis.
