To obtain a composition useful for treating a plant tissue.
A Bacillus subtilis IFO3134 strain is cultured and an arabinase and a protopectinase are isolated from the resultant culture solution. An extract solution is prepared from a soybean flour. The resultant arabinase is combined with the protopectinase and extract solution of the soybean flour to carry out a treatment of a plant tissue. The actions of the arabinase and/or protopectinase are mutually enhanced according to the method and the treatment of the plant tissue using the enzymes can industrially be practiced. The arabinase has the following properties: (1) having a hydrolyzing activity for arabinan, (2) having about 65,000 molecular weight on an SDS polyacrylamide electrophoretic gel, (3) having 7.0 optimal pH, (4) having 50°C optimal temperature and (5) receiving inhibition by Ag, Cd, Cu, Hg, Mn and Zn. The protopectinase has the following properties: (1) having a hydrolyzing activity for protopectin, (2) having about 30,000 molecular weight on the SDS polyacrylamide electrophoretic gel, (4) having 6.0 optimal pH, (5) having 60°C optimal temperature and (5) receiving inhibition by Hg and Mn.
