To suppress reverse torque and drive with a revolution over a wide range by a method wherein the phase of the winding current of a double salient pole reluctance motor is detected and a sine wave current is applied to the winding and, further, an inverter is controlled so as to have the phase of the sine wave current waveform agree with the phase of a predetermined rotor phase.
The winding current of a double salient pole reluctance(DSR) motor 2 is detected by a winding current detection unit 4 and, at the same time, the rotor position of the DSR motor 2 is detected by a rotor position detecting unit 5. The detected values are inputted to an inverter control unit 6 and an inverter 3 is so controlled as to have the phase of a sine wave current wavefornm applied to the motor winding agree with the phase of a predetermined rotor phase. Thus, a sine wave current is supplied to the DSR motor 2 from the compressor 3 to drive the DSR motor 2 and a compressor 1 is driven. With this constitution, reverse torque can be suppressed and the driving revolution range of the compressor 1 can be extended.
