Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical pickup which records and reproduces optical disks having different recording densities, is small in its size, thin in its thickness and low in the power consumption.
SOLUTION: The pickup has an objective lens 16, a first optical unit 4 which has light emitting and receiving elements used to record and to reproduce a high density optical disk 17, a second optical unit 8 which has light emitting and receiving elements used to record and to reproduce a low density optical disk, a beam splitter 10 which guides the optical axes of the units 4 and 8 to a same optical axis and a wavelength filter 15 which changes the diameter of the luminous flux made incident on the lens 16 while conducting recordings and reproducings of the disk 17 and the low density optical disk. Thus, recording and reproducing of the high and low density optical disks are easily performed.
