To provide a consolidometer of soil capable of accurately evaluating true strength and settlement rigidity by returning a soil specimen disturbed by sampling or molding to an original ground soil state and its test method.
A receiver 3 comprising an oscillator is provided on the center of a pressurization plate 2 serving as a bottom plate, a transmitter 9 comprising an oscillator is provided on the center of a pressurization plate 11 serving as an upper plate, high voltage pulses are applied to the oscillator of the transmitter 9 to transmit an elastic wave while the soil specimen S in a consolidation vessel 6 is sandwiched by the two pressurization plates 2, 11 to be pressurized, the speed of the wave is measured by receiving the elastic wave propagating the inside of the soil specimen S by the oscillator of the receiver 3, a degree of load is enlarged until it is equal to the speed of the wave measured previously in the original ground, the load is removed from the time point where the equivalent speed of the wave is obtained, and a consolidation test is performed in normal procedure.
