PURPOSE: To roll efficiently and surely various metallic pipes having joints by setting plural points in a rolling line, detecting the joints of the pipes and controlling the deceleration and resetting of feed speed.

CONSTITUTION: The operator transfers manually a metallic pipe A by a feed chucking device 5. The pulse transmitted from a pulse transmitter 13 is inputted to an arithmetic device for storage when a joint detector 12 detects the joint. The operator pushes a deceleration start button 17 to decelerate the pipe A and to store the number of pulses up to the 1st point I into an arithmetic unit 14 upon arriving of the joint at the point I . The operator pushes a rolling completion button 18 and draws out the preceding material A1 by an outlet side chuck 9 upon arrival of the joint emerging from the rolling mill at the 2nd point II. The operator stores also the number of pulses up to the point II into the unit 14. The operator pushes a deceleration reset button 19 to grasp the succeeding material A2 by the chuck 9 and to reset the transfer to the high speed and stores the number of pulses up to the 3rd point II into the unit 14 when the joint arrives at the 3rd point III. The operator changes over the device to the automatic mode to continue the transfer of the pipe A.
