PURPOSE: To control the optimum injection timing for the generation limit of a white smoke, by individually obtaining corrective amounts of the fuel injection timing in accordance with the intake pressure and the load of an engine so as to correct the basic fuel injection timing in accordance with these corrective amounts.
CONSTITUTION: When an engine is operated, first a fuel injection amount Q is calculated by a fuel injection amount arithmetic means in accordance with an operative condition parameter, and then the basic fuel injection timing TB is calculated by a basic fuel injection timing arithmetic means in accordance with this fuel injection amount Q and the operative condition parameter. While a corrective amount TH of fuel injection timing if obtained by both calculating a corrective amount TA of fuel injection timing by a corrective amount arithmetic means in accordance with the intake pressure and correcting said corrective amount TA by a correcting means in accordance with a load of the engine. Next, the fuel injection timing is calculated by adding this corrective amount TH to the basic fuel injection timing TB in a fuel injection timing arithmetic means, and a fuel injection valve is controlled in accordance with this fuel injection timing.
