Abstract:

To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of inhibiting mixing of intake air and exhaust gas when exhaust gas is introduced into a cylinder in addition to intake air.

The control device for the internal combustion engine is provided with an exhaust gas swirl forming means introducing exhaust gas Ex into the cylinder of the internal combustion engine and forming swirl S2 of the exhaust gas by opening an exhaust valve 8 for a predetermined first period with closing an intake valve 7 during an intake stroke of the internal combustion engine 1, and an intake air swirl forming means introducing intake air In into the cylinder and forming swirl S1 of the intake air by opening the intake valve for a predetermined second period with closing the exhaust valve after completion of the first period during the intake stroke. The exhaust gas swirl forming means and the intake air swirl forming means form the swirl of the exhaust gas and the swirl of the intake air to rotate the swirl of the exhaust gas and the swirl of the intake air in the same rotation direction around the axis of the cylinder.
