PURPOSE: To prevent an engine stall at the end of deceleration by continuously supplying a small quantity of fuel from a carburetor into a suction pipe when a clutch to directly connect the engine with an axle is engaged in decelerating a vehicle equipped with a hydraulic torque converter.
CONSTITUTION: A hydraulic torque converter 14 is provided with a clutch 20 to directly connect an engine with an axle in its engaging state. The clutch 20 functions when a solenoid controlled valve 26 which releases atmospherically pressure oil for a control valve 23 keeps openings. At the deceleration of the engine, a control device 27 opens the solenoid controlled valve 26 to engage the clutch 20, and thereby directly connects the engine with the axle to improve the effectiveness of engine brake, and moreover opens the auxiliary air bleed opening valve 12 of a carburetor 3 to supply air into a suction pipe. Thus lean mixture is continuously supplied into the suction pipe. When the clutch 20 is disengaged at the end of deceleration, the fuel can be promptly supplied to prevent engine stall.
