PURPOSE: To obtain a controller for an elevator which can improve the safety of passengers so that the elevator does not travel in the state where the passenger in the vicinity of a door has clothes or luggage in nipped state, without feteriorating the operation efficiency of the elevator.
CONSTITUTION: A controller for an elevator is constituted of a detection circuit CPU 2a' which detects the state where the elevator is nearly full of passengers on the basis of the output of a loading quantity detecting device 19 for detecting the loading quantity of a cage and an elevator control circuit 1A which changes the position of a door which starts the elevator to the vicinity of the perfect closure position of the door when the number of passengers is nearly full.
