To provide a controller for an optical amplifier which is a controller for the optical amplifier, such as erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier, and may be rapidly triggered without the overshoot of ALC control at the time of closing a power source and at the time of resetting from light input off.
The IDC reference voltage exponential-functionally increasing up to a value sufficiently larger than the value at the time of an ordinary operation is generated by the time constant equiv. to the rising time of an EDF 14 in an IDC reference value generating circuit at the time of closing the power source and at the time of resetting from light input off, by which a laser diode 16 for EDF excitation is controlled. The value set larger than the value at the time of the ordinary operation only for the prescribed time by using a timer is equally well.
