PURPOSE: To suppress surely generation of a spatter by setting the short-circuit current flowing in a consumable electrode wire again to prescribed short-circuit current when no arc is generated upon attaining of the prescribed current value.
CONSTITUTION: The short-circuit current detected by a current detector 112 is impressed on a comparator 123 and is compared with a set value ISA slightly lower than the short-circuit current occuring in the absence of a spatter in the stage of a short circuit. A failure in regeneration of an arc is judged when the short-circuit current decreases below ISA. A switch 120 is thereupon changed over by the output from the comparator 123 to a current setter 122 to reset the current of a consumable electrode wire to the original short circuit current ISP. The consumable electrode wire is then cut and the arc is regenerated.
