To provide a conveyance system and a conveyance method that can efficiently convey a placement member.SOLUTION: A conveyance system 1 comprises: a conveyance lane 100 for conveying a placement member 10 on which food is placed; a transfer device 200 for receiving the placement member placed on a waiting area 5, and transferring the placement member to the conveyance lane; and a control device 300 for controlling the transfer device so that when the placement member to be conveyed to a predetermined position of the conveyance lane is placed on the waiting area, the placement member is transferred to the conveyance lane, and controlling the conveyance lane so that when the placement member is transferred to the conveyance lane by the transfer device, the placement member is conveyed to the predetermined position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
