Abstract:
To provide a copolymer composed of a conjugated diolefin and an aromatic vinyl compound and especially suitable for the manufacture of a tire and provide a process for the production of the copolymer.
A conjugated diolefin is copolymerized with a vinyl aromatic compound in the presence of a catalyst containing e.g. (a) at least one kind of rare-earth metal compound and (b) at least one kind of organic aluminum compound and an inert aliphatic and/or aromatic solvent or their mixture at -30 to +140°C at an (a):(b) molar ratio of 1:(0.1-1,000). The amount of the catalyst component (a) is 1 μmol to 10 mmol based on 100 g of the conjugated diolefin and that of the vinyl aromatic compound is 20-2,000 g per 100 g of the conjugated diolefin.
