PURPOSE: A cosmetic for eye make-up such as eye shadow, etc., having high safety which a black type pigment does not possess, using fine powder of ferric tannate complex as a colorant.
CONSTITUTION: A ferric salt is added to an aqueous solution of tannic acid with stirring. The molar ratio of the ferric salt to tannic acid is 0.5W2.0. After the addition of the ferric salt is over, an aqueous solution of caustic soda is added to the reaction mixture and adjusted to a pH of 7. The neutralized solution is heated with stirring, cooled, filtered by a filter press, etc., washed with warm warer, and filtered hydrous cake of ferric tannate is dries in an oven, to give black ferric tannate. This is pulverized by a ball mill, etc., to give fine powder having particle diameters of 10W0.1μ. The fine powder whose surface is subjected to hydrophobic treatment with a monofatty acid ester of sorbitan, etc. can be also used.
