To attain space saving and to facilitate assembly by constituting a counter so that one assembly which can be shifted from/to the other assembly may be rotated and shifted parallel to the rotational plane of the shifting assembly.

The counter is provided with a counting mark carrier 401 constituting the 1st assembly and with plural count marks which are annularly arranged and a 2nd display device 415 constituting the 2nd assembly and which interacts with the count marks of the count mark carrier 401. As for the counter, one assembly is shifted from/to the other assembly by a controller 114 so as to set respective count positions. As for a counter for the number of photographed sheets for a camera, the assembly 401 which can be shifted from/to the other assembly is rotated and shifted by the controller 114 so as to be parallel to the rotational plane of the shifting assemble 401. Thus, space saving is attained, and the assembly is facilitated.
