PURPOSE: To slice bread with high efficiency by liftably-fitting a cradle for bread whose transportation is driven by a cradle-transportation mechanism including a handle, thereby carrying a loaf placed on the cradle at a lowering position into a horizontal blade assembly with the upward movement of the cradle.

CONSTITUTION: A handle 20 is lifted upwards, and an arm 124 is oscillated downwards through spur gears 122, 120 to lower a cradle 16 for bread to a lowering position. A loaf is inserted through a feed opening 82 to be placed on the cradle 16. A blade assembly 14 is then driven, and the handle 20 is pushed down downwards under this condition to raise the cradle 16, feed the loaf on the cradle 16 into the blade assembly 14, and slice it horizontally with a cutting edge 74 fitted to the upper and lower cutting edge frames 70, 72 of the blade assembly 14.
