To provide a crank press where, even if a slide balancer is made hydraulic, the compactness of the press is not damaged, and the weight of a follower system can be prevented from becoming heavy as well, and to provide a shut height regulation method.

The crank press is provided with: a slide 4 operated by an eccentric shaft 6; a slide balancer for balancing the weight of the slide 4; and a shut height regulation mechanism for regulating the shut height provided between the slide 4 and the eccentric shaft 6. The slide balancer is provided with: a hydraulic cylinder 13 for energizing the slide 4 to the upper part; and a hydraulic regulation means for regulating the hydraulic pressure in the hydraulic cylinder 13. The hydraulic regulation means retains the hydraulic pressure in the hydraulic cylinder 13 to a fixed balance pressure during a press operation, and makes the same to the one lower than the balance pressure during a shut height regulation operation by the shut height regulation mechanism.
