PURPOSE: To obtain a novel seal and dust guard assembly of a bearing cup by providing a structure comprising a seal assembly and a dust guard, wherein an inner friction surface is in contact with an outer friction surface of a trunnion and the bearing cup is retained about the trunnion.

CONSTITUTION: An annular seal assembly 25 is provided for sealing each of bearing cups on its associated trunnion. Each of the seal assemblies includes an elastomeric seal 27 attached to a metallic support ring 26. The metallic rings 26 are pressed into the open ends of the bearing cups 20 and are retained therein by friction. The elastomeric seals 27 each include a pair of radially inwardly extending sealing lips. One of the sealing lips, i.e., lip 24a, engages a sealing surface 12c of the trunnion, while the other of the sealing lips, i.e., lip 27b, engages a tapered surface 12b. Respective plastic dust guards 30 are also provided for the bearing cups. Each of the dust guards includes an axially extending portion 30a which extends till flange 30c and a radially extending portion 30b which extends till a friction surface 30d of the trunnion, thus forming a seal and dust guard assembly.
