Abstract:
To provide a cBN-based sintered body having excellent crack propagation resistance and toughness as well as rigidity, hardness, and heat resistance, and a cutting tool comprising this sintered body.SOLUTION: The invention provides a cBN-based sintered body having excellent crack propagation resistance and a cutting tool comprising this sintered body. In the cBN-based sintered body, its binder phase involves Ti compound grains (preferably, having an average grain size of 150 nm or over and 500 nm or under), and has a binder phase texture where Ti compound grains including Al compound grains, among the Ti compound grains, exist. Preferably, a volume ratio of the Ti compound grains including the Al compound grains to the binder phase of the cBN sintered body is 5 vol.% or over and 60 vol.% or under, and a volume ratio of the Al compound grains included in the Ti compound grains to the Ti compound grains including the Al compound grains is 3 vol.% or over and 15 vol.% or under.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
