A cutter device includes a fixed blade, a movable blade, a drive mechanism, a detection means, and a control means. The movable blade is configured to move along the fixed blade to cut a paper sheet interposed between the movable blade and the fixed blade. The drive mechanism is configured to transfer a drive torque to move the movable blade. The detection means is configured to detect whether any failure in cutting the paper sheet has occurred in the course of the movement of the movable blade by the drive mechanism. The cutter device is configured to increase the drive torque to be transferred by the drive mechanism to the movable blade upon detection of the failure in cutting the paper sheet by the detection means.
