To provide a device and method for cutting a metal thin plate, which provides a metal ring with excellent quality and improves productivity.
The device comprises a press-cutting blade 5 for cutting a drum W by being pressed to a predetermined position on an outer periphery of a cylindrical drum W, a cylindrical contact tool 7 for contacting an inner periphery of the drum W, and a plurality of groove parts 8 formed on the outer periphery of the contact tool 7. The groove parts 8 are formed in a V-shape seen from a cross section, and have peak-shaped projections 12 at their centers. The peak-shaped projections 12 have height of 40-60% of that at a deepest part 11 of the groove part 8. The press-cutting blade 5 is pressed to the outer periphery of the drum W to form a cut-out part 14, and is advanced toward the peak-shaped projections 12. A thin portion is formed on the inner periphery of the drum W opposed to a tip of the press-cutting tool 5, and tips 12a of the peak-shaped projections 12 are made to contact so as to form a press part 13. The cut-out part 14 and the press part 13 are made into contact with each other, so as to cut the drum W while the press-cutting blade 5 is not contacting the peak-shaped projections 12.
