A cutting head 3 of this cutting machine 1 includes a pen 20 as a writing tool. The pen 20 is a commercial oily pen 20, for instance, and performs writing by a pen tip 20a. In a pen body 20b, liquid ink is stored. A holder 21 attachably/detachably holds the pen 20. An elevating mechanism 22 elevates/lowers the holder 21 so that the pen tip 20a may be brought into contact with or separated from a surface of a sheet material 10 mounted on a cutting table 2 by control of a control means 13. A cam mechanism 23 covers the pen tip 20a with a cap 50 and seals the pen tip 20a in a stand-by state in which the pen tip 20a is separated from the surface of the sheet material 10. By the sealing, the pen tip 20a can be prevented from drying.
