Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool comprising the sintered body of cubic boron nitride (cBN) exerting excellent defect resistance and chipping resistance in cutting of a high-hardness steel and exerting excellent cutting performance over a long term use.SOLUTION: There is provided a cutting tool comprising the sintered body including cBN particles and a binder phase as a tool base substance. The sintered body contains the cBN particle of 40 vol% or more but less than 60 vol%, and Al of 2 mass% as a lower limit and the range satisfying a relational expression: Y=-0.1X+10 as an upper limit when defining an Al content ratio (vol%) as Y and a cBN content ratio (mass%) as X. The binder phase contains at least a Ti-based compound, AlOand inevitable impurities, and the fine particles of AlOhaving the diameter of 10 to 100 nm generate and disperse in the binder phase. The fine particles of AlOof 30 pieces or more generate in the area of 1 μm×1 μm in the cross section of the binder phase.
