To provide a dampening water composition for lithographic printing, which accelerates no flowing-out of calcium from an ink or a paper, exhibits a favorable calcium hiding effect, prevent the calcium from being precipitated onto the roller of a printing machine over a longer term and, at the same time, prevent also a tinting from developing, resulting in showing a favorable printability.

This dampening water contains a hydrophilic film forming agent, at least one kind of an emulsification inhibitor selected form the group consisting of acetylene glycols and acetylene alcohols and an organic phosphonic acid.
