PURPOSE: To properly control damping force of a rear suspension even when rear behavior is different from front behavior by correctingly controlling damping force of the rear suspension on the basis of a dimension of pitching of a vehicle body and a dimension of vertical vibration of the front of the vehicle body.
CONSTITUTION: A damping force controller is provided with a wheel speed sensor 1 arranged in the vicinity of a front wheel and a spring upper acceleration sensor 2 detecting a spring upper acceleration, and detection signals from these sensors are inputted into an ECU 3. Then, by means of a front wheel speed computing unit 4, a front wheel speed is computed from a wheel speed signal, and a pitching constituent with the predetermined frequency contained in the front wheel speed is extracted by means of a band-pass filter processing unit 5. In a coefficient multiplication unit 6, the pitching constituent is multiplied by the preset coefficient, and a pitch rate is found, while in an integral processing unit 7, a front spring upper speed and a front spring upper/lower relative speed are computed, and these are used for damping force control in a rear suspension.
