To provide a dehydration method for water-containing earth and sand having good dehydration efficiency, also easy to discharge permeated water or surplus soil after dehydration, excellent in workability, having no problem from an aspect of safety and good in maintenance properties, and an earth and sand hopper with a dehydration function.
Water-containing earth and sand 34 is charged in a hopper 7 and a strip-like anode 16 is provided to the inside surface of the upper part of the hopper 7 or planar anodes 36 and 47 are provided to the upper surface of the opening part of the hopper. A current is passed through the cathode having water collecting holes 18 and 41 provided to the lower part of the hopper 7 to extract moisture from the water-containing earth and sand 34 by electric permeation and dehydration action and water 34c in soil is introduced into a drain system reduced in pressure under vacuum through the water collecting holes 18 and 41 to be drained to the outside.
