EXAMPLE: 1',3'-Dideoxy-1'-methylphosphono-β-D-fructofuranosylu-racil shown by the formula II.
USE: An inhibitor against biosynthesis of nucleic acid, useful as a carcinostatic agent and an antiviral agent.
PREPARATION: An aldehyde shown by the formula III or formula IV (A is OH-protecting group; R5 is lower alkyl) or an aldehyde equivalent compound is reacted with a dialkyl phosphite shown by the formula V (R6 is lower alkyl) in the presence of a base. Then, the OH group of a saccharide at 1'-position is converted into an active thioester, reduced, and deprotected, or converted into the active thioester, reduced, deprotected, dealkylated or converted into the active thioester, reduced, deprotected and further acylated.
