CONSTITUTION: By picking up the surface image of the unit mold 3 of cast pig iron by using the image pickup device 5, the condition of being filled up with the molten pig iron supplied into the recessed parts 4 arranged in e.g. two lines and three pieces in each line, formed in the unit mold is obtd. as the image pickup signal. This image pickup signal is inputted together with signal for synchronizing in each unit mold and stored in the image processing arithmetic device 7 and this image data are binarized to output the contour of the surface in the molded pig iron. The contour on this surface is obtd. as the area of the bottom surface of the molded pig iron. As the shape size of each recessed part 4 is already known, the molded pig iron weight is calculated from the area of the calculated bottom surface and can be estimated.
