Abstract:

To efficiently detect the shorting occurrence point of an electrolytic cell in an early period by continuously measuring cell voltages at respective both ends of the plural electrolytic cells, estimating the electrolytic cell where the shorting occurs from the difference in the way of dropping of the cell voltages and preferentially measuring the temp. on the electrolytic cell surface of this electrolytic cell by an IR camera, thereby detecting the occurrence point of the shorting.

The cell voltages are continuously measured at respective both ends of the plural electrolytic cells and are kept monitored by a computer. When this computer discovers abnormality in the difference in the way of dropping of the cell voltage, the computer judges that the shorting arises in this electrolytic cell. The IR camera usually measures the temps. of the electrolytic cell surfaces successively. When the computer judges the occurrence of the shorting, the computer instructs the IR camera to preferentially measure the temp. of the electrolytic cell surface where the shorting occurs. The occurrence point of the shorting is specified from the result of the temp. measurement by the IR camera. The occurrence point of the shorting is discovered much faster than by the IR camera alone.
