PURPOSE: To obtain a detergent improved in detergency for sea-salt particles by incorporating a polyhydric alcohol into water.

CONSTITUTION: The title detergent is prepared by incorporating a polyhydric alcohol into water. The polyhydric alcohol, which is a principal component of this detergent, functions as follows in cleaning operation: (1) the evaporation of the detergent is reduced by utilizing the high boiling point of polyhydric alcohol; (2) the water film retentivity of the detergent is enhanced by utilizing the viscosity of polyhydric alcohol; (3) the use of polyhydric alcohol aids in dissolving salts; (4) the synergism of the functions (1), (2), and (3) of polyhydric alcohol can increase the solubility of salts, prevent the recrystallization thereof, enhance detergency, shorten the cleaning time, and reduce the usage of cleaning water; (5) the use of polyhydric alcohol makes the detergent biodegradable.
