To provide a method for detecting or determining a gene having a specific sequence, and a reagent therefor.

This method for detecting or determining a single strand DNA having a specific gene sequence and the reagent therefor are constituted by hybridizing a DNA probe bonded with a carrier formed by bonding a single strand DNA probe having a complemental sequence with a specific gene sequence of a single strand DNA fragment having a specific gene sequence to be detected or determined in a specimen with a carrier consisting of a material hardly adsorbing the DNA mediated by or not mediated by a spacer, with the DNA fragment in the specimen, and detecting or determining the DNA fragments hybridized with the carrier bonded DNA probe.
