Abstract:

To provide a device for changing IP data based on ATM equipped with high availability for a communication network into IP data based on Ethernet.

This device has two gateways carrying out ATM/Ethernet protocol conversion to IP data for transmission, an Ethernet link protection means for putting each gateway in an active state or an inactive state, and a management means for directing a change shown as follows. When a problem of IP data transfer between the first equipment through a gateway P1 and an access equipment arises while it is in active, the management means directs a change to stop using an ATM link LA 1 connected to a gateway P1 so that the access equipment can use an ATM link LA 2 connected to other gateway P2 which is in inactive, and so that Ethernet link protection means can put the initially active gateway P1 in an inactive state, and to change the inactive gateway P2 to an active state when not yet been in active.
