To provide a device capable of mechanically confirming the presence/ absence of a cartridge without bringing any member into contact with the cartridge in the midst of loading the cartridge in an APS camera.

This device is provided with a cartridge lever 15 and a cover lever 16 which are pressed and displaced when the film cartridge is loaded. When a cove is opened and the lever 16 is moved by spring force, the lever 15 is interlocked with the movement so as to move in the same direction. The lever 16 is moved to a non-contact position with the cartridge when the cover of a cartridge chamber is closed. Also the device is provided with a presence/ absence display board 17 rotated interlocked with the displacement of the lever 15 and displaying the presence/absence of the cartridge. Then the lever 15 and the display board 17 are selectively energized to two positions, that is, a cartridge existing position and a cartridege non-existing position by an energizing direction switching spring 18, and the lever 15 is held at the non-contact position with the cartridge when the lever 15 is pressed and displaced.
