Title:
DEVICE FOR DETECTING RIDING STATE OF OCCUPANT IN VEHICLE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3532772
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable device to detect the presence or absence of an occupant in a vehicle or the physique of the occupant by providing a means for detecting the riding state of the occupant on the basis of reference data and distance measured by measuring means.
SOLUTION: Distances measured for every windows stored in the distance storage part 8 of a device are compared with reference seat distances for every window obtained form a reference seat distance computing part 34. In the case that the measured distance is greater than (the reference seat distance - measurement error), 1 is added to the first counter N0. In the case that it is smaller than (the reference seat distance - the thickness of an occupant + measurement error), 1 is added to the second counter N1. This processing is performed on every window. In the case that the value of the counter N1 at the time of completion is greater than a constant 1, the presence of an occupant is determined. In the case that it is smaller than or equal to the constant 1, the absence of an occupant is determined. As the distances between image pickup means 3 and 3' and an occupant are measured by a measuring method adapting the principle of tigonometrical survey and using at least two image pickup means 3 and 3' to detect the riding state of an occupant, it becomes possible to detect the riding state of the occupant with accuracy.
