PURPOSE: To provide a device and the method therefor for joining hot rolled stocks with which the rolled stocks by continuous hot rolling are mutually joined with sufficient joining strength over the entire width in a short time while running and the temp. drop of the rolled stocks accompanying the joining is decreased as small as possible.
CONSTITUTION: The rear end part 1a of a preceding rolled stock 1 and the tip part 2a of the succeeding rolled stock 2 are overlapped with a vertical space with a rear end clamp mechanism 14, tip clamp mechanism 16 and vertically moving mechanism 18 which are provided on a truck 12 traveling at the rolling speed on the upstream side of a finishing mill and, after mechanically cutting opposed surfaces across the space with a working mechanism 20 while holding the surfaces in a reducing atmosphere with a reducing atmosphere holding mechanism 24, forge-welding is executed by screwing down the mutual cut surfaces into the approximately same thickness as the rolled stock 1 with heated dies 22a, 22b of the forge-welding mechanism 22. In this way, joining strength is improved by executing mechanical cutting and forge- welding in the reducing atmosphere and the temp. drop of the rolled stock due to the temp. drop of the die is decreased as small as possible by preheating the die for forge-welding.
