To provide a roller manufacturing device 1 which dispenses with the screening of a raw workpiece 2 after grinding a cylinder and ensures desired crowning accuracy even if ceramic is employed as the raw workpiece 2 of a roller.
The roller manufacturing device 1 has a carrier rail 5 connecting a cylinder grinder 3 and a crowning machine 4. The carrier rail 5 carries the raw workpieces 2 machined by the cylinder grinder 3 to the crowning machine 4 in a sequential order. Thus, the accuracy of the outer diameter of each of the raw workpieces 2 sequentially charged into the crowning machine 4 is set in a range of the outer diameter ±0.25 μm, and therefore the screening of the raw workpiece 2 after the cylinder grinding is dispensed with even if ceramic is employed as the raw workpiece 2. As a result, the manual inspection of all the raw workpieces 2 is abolished, which leads to drastic reduction in cost. Further, the abolishment of the inspection leads to the elimination of a variation in the accuracy of the raw workpieces caused by erroneous measurement.
