To exclusively select light pulses of a desired channel from a multitude of channels arranged in a time-series with a simple technique without employing any advanced LSI.
A device for processing an optical signal is made up of a Raman waveguide 11 which functions as a semiconductor Raman amplifier; a semiconductor laser diode 4 which serves as a pumping light source for exciting the Raman waveguide 11; an optical circulator 8; and a photoelectric conversion circuit 6 for exclusively extracting a synchronously amplified optical pulse signal of a desired channel, as an electric pulse signal from an output optical pulse signal of the Raman waveguide 11. The semiconductor laser diode 4 generates a synchronous optical pulse train which is synchronized with a specified channel of a multitude of channels. The Raman waveguide 11 has a hetero-structure made up of at least a GaP core layer; and an Al
