Abstract:

To start an internal combustion engine after idle stop by combustion without using a starter motor.

When the engine is started, a fuel is supplied to a cylinder stopping in the expansion stroke and ignited for combustion. The rotation of the engine is started by the combustion. The reaction of the rotation of the engine by combustion is reduced in the predetermined period during the start of the combustion. Specifically, tightening elements tightened when an automatic transmission is in D-range are released from each other. The reaction of the engine in the compression stroke is reduced by a decompression device. After the predetermined period is elapsed, the tightening elements are immediately tightened with each other. To ready for the tightening, however, a line pressure for tightening is secured by a line pressure holding mechanism after the engine is stopped.
