PURPOSE: To obtain a method and device capable of largely improving productive efficiency in the case of producing and taking up a photographic roll film in a cartridge by winding the film in the cartridge which is being assembled.

CONSTITUTION: Plural cartridge holders 40 and insertion guides 50 feeding the specified length of film and guiding the leading edge locking hole so that it may be locked on the catch 14, of a roll shaft 12 in the cartridge corresponding to the respective holders 40 are made one set and arranged at equal intervals on a turning body 1 which cyclically repeats moving and stopping in plural fixed work stations. The guide 50 is moved so as to interpose the film carrying surface near the film entrance of the cartridge by a moving means from a retreat position, and the tip of the guide 50 is inserted to the vicinity of the outside diameter surface of the roll shaft 12 from the film entrance. The device is provided with a retreat means retreating the guide 50 when the catch 14 of the roll shaft 12 is hooked in the locking hole so as to lock the film and a driving transmitting means transmitting the rotation driving to the roll shaft 12.
