To provide an elevating/lowering device for elevating/lowering a heavy object by turning a rotary shaft which can reliably prevent any unexpected turn of the rotary shaft without incurring high cost.

The elevating/lowering device has a rotary shaft 30 extending in the direction across the vertical direction, and elevates/lowers a heavy object connected to one end of the rotary shaft by turning the rotary shaft 30. The rotary shaft 30 has a bent part 32, and the bent part 32 is capable of transmitting the rotational force. A fore end 33 of the rotary shaft 30 is suspended in the vertical direction irrespective of the stopping position of the rotary shaft, and the rotation applied to the rotary shaft 30 from the heavy object is prevented by the weight of the suspended fore end 33.
