PURPOSE: To obtain a diamond sintered body of high quality by using an amorphous alloy as a catalyst, bringing the alloy having a catalytic compsn. into contact with diamond powder and executing sintering under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: An amorphous alloy essentially consisting of Co and/or Fe and contg. at least one kind selected from Si, B and P is used as a catalyst. The alloy having the catalytic compsn. is brought into contact with diamond powder in the state of lumps, and by using a superhigh pressure and high temp. apparatus, they are heated to ≥1050°C under a superhigh pressure of ≥4.5GPa and are sintered. In this way, the sintering pressure can be reduced by about 20% compared to that in the conventional one without deteriorating the quality of the diamond sintered body compared to that of the conventional one.
