To provide a liquid crystalline compound which has a high voltage retention rate as a liquid crystal material for a low voltage-driven TFT liquid crystal display element and an especially high value, is electrically and chemically stable, and is good in compatibility with existing liquid compounds, a liquid crystal composition containing it, and a liquid crystal display element constructed therewith.
A dioxane derivative is represented by general formula (1), wherein R represents an alkyl group or the like, and Q1 and Q2 each represent independently H, F, etc. A represents a group having a dioxane ring, and A0 and A1 each represent independently a phenylene group. or a cyclohexylene group. Za and Zb each represent independently a connecting group exemplified by a single bond etc., and n1 and n2 each represent independently an integer of 0 or 1. This liquid crystal composition contains at least one kind of the derivative. This liquid crystal display element is composed using the liquid crystal composition.
