Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reconcile the reduction of fuel adhesion onto the crown surface of a piston and the reduction of fuel spill over a bowl. SOLUTION: A dish shaped bowl 21 having a roughly circular shaped opening part 21a, is recessed so as to be provided for the crown surface of a piston 14. A fuel injection valve 20 is provided, which directly injects fuel in the inside of a cylinder 13. Stratified charge combustion can be realized by injecting fuel toward the bowl 21 in the vicinity of a compression stroke. The contour shape of fuel atomization F by the fuel injection valve 20 is set up so as to be formed into an oblate shape having an oblateness L1/L2 in response to the ratio of an opening diameter Rb to a depth Db for the bowl 21.
