To provide a direction changing device 11 capable of accurately and stably changing the direction of articles 13 and easily controlling and regulating the direction change of articles 13 without needing drive equipment of high performance.
A sensor PRO for detecting the article 13 is provided at the starting edge of a carrying conveyor 17. When the article 13 whose direction is to be changed is detected by the sensor PRO, at least the direction change of the article 13 is completed from a block B1 on the upstream in the conveying direction of two rows of conveyors rows 18a, 18b. For instance, a plurality of blocks B1-B4 up to the block B4 are simultaneously controlled in different speed. With the simultaneous different speed control of the blocks B1-B4 of the two rows of conveyor rows 18a, 18b, the direction of the article 13 placed straddling the two rows of conveyor rows 18a, 18b is changed. Compared with shifting different speed control to each downstream block, the direction of the article 13 is accurately and stably changed, and the direction change of the article 13 is easily controlled and regulated without needing the drive equipment of high performance capable of changing speed in an instant.
