PURPOSE: To make a tracking information track needless by providing three electrodes in different positions of a stylus main body and by using one of them for television signal information detection and the others for tracking servo.

CONSTITUTION: Electrodes 21, 22 and 23 are provided in different positions of sapphire stylus 151 respectively, and electrodes 21 and 22 are so provided that they may cover the approximate half of the width of a pit, and electrode 23 is so provided that it may cover the pit width. Output ends of electrodes 21, 22 and 23 are connected to signal detection circuits 24, 25 and 26 respectively. Outputs of amplifying circuits 27 and 28 are inputted to the first and the second input ends of amplitude comparator circuit 31 respectively, and signal levels applied to these input ends are compared with each other to lead out the difference output. This difference output is inputted to tracking coils 34 and 35 through tracking driving circuits 32 and 33 respectively to compensate and control tracking of stylus 151. COnsequently, tracking servo can be performed without requiring a tracking information track newly.
